One of UNLV's Howard R. Hughes College of Engineering research centers, the Center for Energy Reseach (CER) will receive $5,724,709 from Secreatary Chu's Recovery Act Funding- To Advance Smart Grid Development.
Specifically, Robert Boehm, distinguished NSHE professor and the CER director, received funding for a project titled: "Dramatic Residential Reduction in the Desert Southwest." Villa Trieste is a collaboration between UNLV, CER, Pulte Homes, and NV Energy. "This community of green homes will provide a laboratory atmosphere that will be used to apply cost benefit analysis and research various energy-conserving design approaches," as released by Senator Harry Reid's office.
